Airdrie have drafted in former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram to mentor in-demand youngster Rohan Ferguson.

Ferguson, 18, has reportedly attracted the interest of Dundee United, Hearts, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle after breaking into the Diamonds side last season.

He made three appearances in his debut campaign, including a man of the match display against Dundee United in a 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat.

Following the departure of keeper Neil Parry to Alloa, the talented teen will take the No.1 position next season – and the Lanarkshire outfit have appointed Ibrox legend Goram to work with the rookie stopper.

It is Goram’s first role in the game since leaving his post as Dunfermline’s goalkeeping coach in May last year.

He told Airdrie’s official website: “I have done my research on Rohan. I know how good a shot-stopper he is and of his ability to play with the ball at his feet.

“He got a taste of the big time last season in the Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United and he is desperate for more of that.

“My job here is to help him realise his potential and I am thrilled that I will be back on a training pitch where I feel I belong.”

Ferguson, who has penned a contract until 2018 with Airdrie, added: “It will be a privilege to be in the same room as Andy Goram, never mind to have him as my coach! I can’t wait to get started and learn everything I can from him.”
