Edinburgh City handed huge play-off boost ahead of East Stirling clash

Edinburgh City’s hopes of securing a historic place in the SPFL have received a huge boost after experienced defender Joe Mbu won his red card appeal.

The former Cowdenbeath and East Fife centre-half was controversially sent off by referee Gavin Duncan in last Saturday’s pyramid final first leg 1-1 draw with East Stirling for allegedly kicking out at David McKenna.

A City spokesperson said: “Our appeal against Joe Mbu’s sending off last Saturday was successful and his red card has been rescinded.”

Mbu had been left stunned by his ordering off last Saturday at Meadowbank.

After the game, he said: “He went to his top pocket then the wee guy McKenna jumps up saying, ‘he kicked me’, so he goes to the back pocket.

“There’s no way he could see it. I’m mystified and absolutely devastated.”
