BRAVE animal rescuers gave this swan a soapy bath after it was found covered in cooking oil.
Volunteers at the Berwick Swan and Wildlife Trust rinsed off the female bird at their centre in the Borders.
It was taken in after a member of the public found it looking unwell on the banks of the River Tweed.
Pat Goff, who helps out at the small charity, said: “It came in very weak and was sent for a checkup.
“It was the vet who noticed there was a slight smell of cooking oil on it – goodness knows why. So that was why it was washed.
“It recovered fine from the bathing and at least it looked white afterwards.”
Speaking about the legendary ability of swans to break human arms, she said: ““If you get hold of the wings from the back they can’t get you.”
