Michelle Mone follows up maiden speech with QVC fake tan promo

CONTROVERSIAL peer Michelle Mone followed up her House of Lords maiden speech today by selling fake tan lotion on a shopping channel.

Mone appeared on QVC with one arm covered in tanning lotion and the other its natural colour.

The tycoon told viewers the Utan range – selling at a cut-price £25.56 for four bottles – “makes your arms look slimmer”.

The appearance on the shopping channel came a day after Mone made her first speech in the House of Lords, quoting Whitney Houston and speaking of empowering young people.

She was joined by hosts Simon Biagi and Alison Keenan for her 9am appearance, and decided to highlight the effectiveness of her range by tanning just one arm.

During the show she held up both of her arms next to each other, to reveal that one was a golden brown colour and the other a pale white.

She said: “I put this on in the morning, just then in the changing rooms.”

Pointing at her pale arm, she said: “This is my natural skin tone – a Scottish pink colour. My other arm has just one coat of Utan on.

“It’s great because it doesn’t come off in your bed linen, there are no streaks and it doesn’t smell.”

Host Alison appeared very impressed with the range, which includes a brand new pre-tan scrub.

She said: “It makes your arms look lovely and toned.”

To which Lady Mone replied: “Yes, it makes them look slimmer.”

Later on in the show, during a chat with host Simon, the bra tycoon explained: “When I go to the beach I do not lie in the sun, I lie in the shade.

“This tan makes you look like you’ve been in the Caribbean. I’m very proud of it – we invested £1m into developing it.”

Despite the glowing reviews, one of her Twitter followers was quick to make a joke about Lady Mone’s TV promotion.

Stuart Tooley commented on a picture showing her two-toned upper body: “That looks like you’ve got lorry driver’s arm.”

The entrepreneur behind the lingerie brand Ultimo regularly makes an appearance on the shopping channel.

In January this year, she came on the show to promote her jewellery range, Diamonique.

She even sparked huge engagement rumours after posting a picture of a large diamond ring on her wedding finger – but it was later revealed she was simply promoting her own products.

Last year, Lady Mone came under fire after promoting her Trimsecret diet pills on Twitter.

She said the “completely herbal pills” helped her lose seven stone and shared a code which allowed shoppers to claim a buy-one-get-one-free voucher.

But diet experts slammed the post, saying that “any person in a position of authority should not be advertising this” and that it was “very irresponsible”.
