A ROAD rage video shows a car driver swerve in front of a tanker carrying 40,000 litres of petrol – and then pull over to have a blazing row.
The driver of the Corsa overtook the tanker as it pulled out to pass a parked vehicle and then pulled in front sharply to avoid an oncoming minibus.
After the tanker driver beeps the car, the Corsa driver pulls over at a roundabout and then has a shouting match with the tanker driver.
The minute-and-a-half clip, obtained by Scotland’s Worst Drivers, was recorded last Thursday as the tanker was driving along Initiative Road, Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire.
It begins with the tanker stopped at a red light, before pulling away and heading through a junction.
Several cars and a van safely overtake the long vehicle before the road narrows and merges from two lanes into one.
For some reason the van suddenly pulls up and stops on the side of the road, forcing the vehicles behind it to overtake.
The driver of the tanker safely pulls out partially into the next lane – but at the same time the Corsa behind tries to overtake him.
The tanker is forced to pull sharply back into his lane and allow the Corsa to complete the overtake, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a bus.
To make matters worse, the Corsa driver then stops in the middle of the roundabout, gets out of his car and argues with the man recording the dashcam footage.
He can be heard saying “I was overtaking the white van” and pointing back in the direction of the road.
The dashcam driver replies: “You’ve gone by me. It goes into one lane. You came up on the outside and onto the wrong side of the road.”
The Corsa driver then walks off and the pair get back into their own vehicles.
Since sharing the shocking footage the driver of the tanker, who has asked not to be named, said: “I had no choice but to take evasive action to avoid the van and then again to avoid the overtaking Corsa that cut the nose off me.
“I was in shock at what was taking place around me and the fact that people have no care or caution for a vehicle carrying 40000 litres of highly flammable unleaded petrol.”
The actions of the Corsa driver have also been condemned by Scotland’s Worst Drivers – a website which shames bad driving north of the Border.
A spokesman said: “I find it astonishing that any driver would overtake a vehicle that is already overtaking another on a single carriageway, especially a petrol tanker carrying 40,000 litres of highly flammable fuel.
“It’s a miracle a collision was avoided here – considering a bus was travelling in the opposite direction, the consequences could have been fatal.
“I also find it concerning that both drivers decided to create a further hazard, by stopping on a roundabout to vent their road rage.”
A Police Scotland “Both males attended a local police office but no official complaint was made. There were no charges brought and no action taken.”
