Aidan Connolly hopes his maiden strike for Raith Rovers marks the start of a goal rush after the waspish winger helped to fire the Fifers back into the Championship playoff places.

The former Dundee United youngster turned in a marvelous display against Livingston on Saturday, tormenting the visitors with direct dribbling and excellent deliveries before capping the performance by firing home the second goal of a 2-0 win.

Connolly was named man of the match as Raith leapfrogged Queen of the South into fourth spot – but hopes the best is yet to come.

The 20-year-old, who has been a standout since his arrival from Tannadice, beamed: “A goal on Saturday is great for me, but I’m aiming for a lot more goals than just the one! So we’ll see how it goes.

“If you win the game, and create chances, you feel good. I feel confident now, so hopefully I can get more goals.

“I came to Raith to get first-team football, but I had to keep my place. I’ve done that and I am feeling really good. But I need to keep going.

“The manager spoke to us before the game and said we needed a win because we’d dropped down to fifth. But we’re back in the play-off place now so that’s good for us. If you keep doing the right things, keep running in behind and creating chances then it will come, and it came on Saturday.”

Future

Connolly’s release by Dundee United last month raised a few eyebrows, given his undoubted promise, and he swiftly penned a deal with Raith until the end of the season.

He is yet to consider his future beyond the summer, but admits he is being driven on by the prospect of proving people wrong.

The former Queen’s Park kid added: “I’ll just keep going and see what happens at the end of the season. I’m just doing my best to impress and prove people wrong, that’s what football is about.”
