PICTURES show a daredevil kitesurfer lifted 30ft above the waves by the strong winds that battered Scotland at the weekend.

Paul Gordon was out for a walk when he spotted the man high above the water off Troon, South Ayrshire.

Paul shared the snaps on Facebook, with the understated caption: “Barassie Beach with a slight breeze.”

Sean Mccartney commented: “Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s a kitesurfer pulling some airtime.”

Joyce Tribble said: “Reminded me of the Green Goblin.”

And Kevan Gordon added: “Braw weather to fly a kite.”

“Braw weather to fly a kite.”

Paul explained: “He managed a few good ones like that and landed pretty well. At a guess he was maybe 30ft in the air. Great to watch.

“There are always a bunch of them down there when the weather is right.”

Barassie Beach itself is located just 15 minutes from Europe’s biggest onshore wind farm. The area is so popular with kitesurfers that there is a specialist shop and kite school located near the beach.

Kitesurfing is an extreme sport which combines aspects of snowboarding, windsurfing, skateboarding and gymnastics.

Surfers use a combination of big waves and strong winds to be lifted high into the air, where they can perform stunts and tricks before landing back in the water.

Some of the highest jumps recorded reach over 60ft high, and some surfers have managed to stay airborne for over 20 seconds.
