Falkirk boss Peter Houston has revealed that key duo Aaron Muirhead and Luke Leahy have been offered new contracts with the Championship club.
Muirhead, 25, has emerged as a vital part of Houston’s back-line since recovering from an injury-hit start to his career with the Bairns, cutting a composed figure at right-back.
The former Partick Thistle and Annan defender has made 28 outings this season and, due to an appearance-related clause in his contract, he is mandated to be offered a new deal by Falkirk.
Both parties are now thrashing out the finer details, however Houston is hopeful that an agreement is imminent
The Bairns boss said: “We are very close to Aaron staying. He has played enough games to activate a new offer, we want to keep him and he wants to stay.
“We made him an offer last week so I would expect an answer very soon.
“He had his injuries when he first arrived, but he has kicked on and really made that right-back position his own. Aaron has done a really good job and we want to keep players like that.”
Leahy, 23, is also out of contract in the summer and has been linked with the likes of Barnsley and Millwall after cementing Falkirk’s left-back berth since his arrival from Rugby Town in 2012.
Houston continued: “We are still in talks with Luke and it wouldn’t surprise me if he stays, but as yet he hasn’t agreed anything.
“We have made him an improved offer and it is still at the stage where he is talking to his agent.”
