Raith Rovers have been handed a massive boost after skipper Jason Thomson made his comeback from over three months out with a broken back.

The former Hearts defender fractured a bone in his back in the 3-0 defeat to Livingston on October 31 and was ordered to enjoy complete rest for much of his rehabilitation.

However, after returning to training in recent weeks, the 28-year-old’s next step was to get some game-time under his belt.

The full-back played the full 90 minutes of Monday night’s 3-1 win over Stirling Albion in a Development League East fixture and could now make his first-team return against Falkirk this weekend.

Manager Ray McKinnon told Capital City Press: “It was great to see Jason play his first game back in over three months. He’s not as sharp as he could be but he did really well.

“It was fantastic to see him getting up and down the flank like we know he can and he lasted the full game, which was great.

“We’ll see how he reacts to the game, as he was a bit stiff on Tuesday, but he’ll be in my thoughts for the weekend.”
