Lewis Macleod admits he is thrilled to have finally made his Brentford debut – 13 months after joining the club.
It was a evening of mixed emotions on Friday as the former Rangers midfielder made his maiden Bees bow as a 82nd minute substitute in a 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
Macleod was recovering from a serious hamstring tear when he made the reported £850,000 switch from Ibrox in January 2015 but the 21-year-old’s rehabilitation proved more complex than expected.
Macleod, however, is hoping he can look forward to a bright future with the Championship side.
Speaking to Brentfordfc.co.uk, Macleod said: “It’s been a long 12, 13 months. I got the call, which I was delighted with and hopefully it’s a small step and in the coming weeks I can do a lot more.
“I could always be better but I’m just glad to be back on the pitch.
“I’m happy to be back but at the same time it would have been much better if we had won the game.
“I think the boys know themselves we’re a lot better than that. Now, it’s about bouncing back and hopefully the next game we can be better.”
Brentford head coach Dean Smith, whose side are eight points adrift of the play-offs, said: “It’ll be a big thing for Lewis to get on the pitch after a long time out and it’ll give him a boost.”
