Raith Rovers manager Ray McKinnon left to lament his side’s failure to kill of Dumbarton

Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon admits his side’s lack of a cutting edge is damaging their play-off hopes after failing to find the net for the fourth game running.

The hosts threw everything at Dumbarton in the second half but could not find the killer touch.

Louis Longridge twice had efforts cleared off the line by Sons defender Frazer Wright, while Ross Callachan and substitute Grant Anderson both had shots saved by keeper Jamie Ewings.

McKinnon, whose side are now clinging onto fourth spot on goal difference ahead of next weekend’s visit of Queen of South, said: “The lack of goals is a concern.

“We need that killer instinct in the box. We’re getting there and I don’t think anyone would have begrudged us a win in terms of what we’ve created.

“I think we did enough to win the game, we created enough chance but we’re not getting the rub of the green that you need to win these sorts of games.

“At one end of the park we’re doing everything right as Kevin Cuthbert didn’t have a save to make.

“We just need to get the ball in the net and once we do that we’ll be fine. It’s the hardest part of the game.”

A minute’s applause before the match paid tribute to Gilbert Lawrie following the Dumbarton chief executive’s sudden death on Thursday and manager Stevie Aitken admitted he was happy with a point.

Aitken said: “It has been a difficult few days after losing Gilbert and our thoughts are with his family.

“But we had to go out there and put a performance on and I thought the players did that, they were outstanding.”
