Queen of the South manager James Fowler admits his bid to sign a new striker has been hit by red-tape.

The Doonhamers boss was on the verge of unveiling a new recruit last week before being told that the unnamed player would be in breach of a FIFA ruling that states that footballers cannot ply their trade for more than two clubs in one season.

Fowler’s side are targeting the play-offs

Fowler, whose side are only two points adrift of the Championship play-offs, said: “The striker is a priority and with Chris Higgins being injured for a few weeks with an ankle injury, probably a centre-back too.

“I thought we had a striker agreed last week but then it turned out he had played for two teams in England.

“And although you can do that in England below a centre level, the SFA look at that differently. I had put a bit of work into that one as well.

“It’s going slowly, it’s difficult. People are reluctant to let their strikers go before they have cover.”
