Raith Rovers have been handed a massive boost after key defender Lewis Toshney returned to light training this week.

The former Celtic, Dundee and Cowdenbeath ace, who recently signed a one-year contract extension with the club, has been a notable absentee after suffering a hamstring injury in November.

Toshney, 23, will not be in contention for this weekend’s Championship fixture against Dumbarton, however manager Ray McKinnon was delighted to see him back on the training field.

He said: “Lewis coming back is great news for everyone. He has been a massive player for us this season.

“But we need to be careful with him and we certainly don’t want to rush him back and risk a set-back, because we want him fit and well for the rest of the season.”

Meanwhile, luckless defender Craig Barr has also taken part in training at Raith’s Glenrothes base.

The former Gretna, Queen of the South and Livingston stopper is yet to make an appearance for the Fifers this season after being plagued with a persistent pelvic complaint.

However, McKinnon will be hopeful he can play a part during the club’s playoff push in the second half of the season.
