The Edinburgh firm have shaped traditional haggis into doughnut rings and then used specially-created flavouring to achieve the green, orange, and yellow colours.

Crombies of Edinburgh shop manager, Brian Barclay, 56, said: “The doughnuts have really been getting noticed and are selling well.

“They are quite gimmicky so people think it’s quite funny to be selling them.

The doughnuts are available in several flavours.
“As of yet no one has mistaken them for real doughnuts but it’s going to be our week this week with Burns Night approaching so you never know.”

The mint & rosemary haggis doughnut is green while a chilli-flavoured version is fiery orange. The yellow doughnut is achieved using lemon and pepper seasoning.

There is also an original haggis doughnut made only with traditional ingredients.

The doughnuts cost £1.20 each or £2.95 for three, have been getting a lot of attention on the butcher’s Facebook page.

“Fabulous” – but not everyone is tempted.
Angie Bradshaw wrote: “Wow my mum bought these for my son after I saw your post. He let me have a taste and these are fabulous.”

Kirstie Hobson said: “Having mine tomorrow for tea. Can’t wait.”

However, some critics have been sceptical about the traditional round haggis replacement.

Christine Yvonnel Novell wrote: “There’s only one Haggis and that’s not this.”

And Lisa Barnes said: “Not sure about this but you don’t know till you try it?.”
