Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has Leeds United pair Liam Cooper and Alex Mowatt on his radar.

Elland Road manager Steve Evans has admitted that Strachan has been in touch regarding ‘two or three’ of his players.

Glasgow-born Evans revealed that Cooper’s name was mentioned during the conversation, while midfielder Mowatt is also thought to have caught Strachan’s attention.

One-time capped playmaker Liam Bridcutt is also currently plying his trade at Elland Road on loan from Sunderland and all three players qualify to play for Scotland through their grandparents.

Centre-half Cooper, 24, who has been capped at Scotland Under-17 and 19 level, and England Under-20 cap Mowatt, 20, have each been enjoying a rich vein of form.

Evans, whose side have won three out of their last four matches in the English Championship, said: “I have had a chat with Gordon and he has asked me about two or three players in particular at Thorp Arch, and part of that conversation involved Liam. It’s good.

“The boy Cooper just seems to get better and better with every game we play.

“I understand he can play for my country, which is a bonus because we are not overly blessed with good centre backs and when you start getting international managers asking about him then that tells you the type of form he’s in.

“With Gordon’s team of people, he has got a few attendants around the country that watch around and Liam has been coming up above the radar as being in outstanding form in the last six weeks.

“The only person who can take credit for that is Liam himself.”
