‘Dumbarton will bring their own problems’ – Peter Houston wary of Falkirk suffering Rangers comedown

Peter Houston has urged his high-flying Falkirk side to avoid being brought back down to earth with a bump by Dumbarton this weekend.

The Sons are the visitors on Boxing Day, with the Bairns brimful of confidence following Saturday’s stunning 2-1 win over Rangers.

Houston’s side blew the Championship title race wide open and announced themselves as serious challengers for the automatic promotion spot thanks to John Baird’s penalty and Will Vaulks’ winner.

However, with the opportunity to close to within three points of joint leaders Rangers and Hibernian, who do not face each other until Monday, Houston is eager for his players not to get ahead of themselves.

He said: “We’ve won at home against Rangers, but Dumbarton will bring their own problems.

“They’ll sit in behind the ball and we’ll have loads of the ball, a wee bit opposite to the end on Saturday.

“There’s no point in beating Rangers at home if you can’t beat Dumbarton at home.

“So our aim is to make sure we beat Dumbarton.”

Delighted

Falkirk have still only been beaten twice this term, against Hibs and Rangers earlier in the campaign, but Houston is thrilled they avoided another two defeats to their promotion rivals in their last two outings.

He is adamant, however, that they should have taken all three points from their 1-1 draw at Easter Road, where they conceded an injury-time equaliser to Martin Boyle.

He added on Falkirk TV: “If you look at the last two games, Hibs at Easter Road and Rangers at home, we’ve taken four points out of six – and let’s be honest about it, it should have been six out of six.

“A lot of people probably thought we would have taken nothing out of six.

“A lot of people would have backed Hibs and a lot of people would have backed Rangers. But guess what? We’ve got four points, so I’m delighted with that.”
