Dick Campbell was sacked at the weekend

Moutinho has applied for the job and is keeping his fingers crossed that he will be selected for an interview.

The Portuguese marksman became a fans favourite at the Bairns during his three separate stints at the club after initially arriving in Scotland from Maritimo in 2004.

The Loons are looking for a new manager after sacking the long-serving Dick Campbell at the weekend.

Former Cowdenbeath and Berwick boss Colin Cameron has been linked with the post, as has Airdrie manager Gary Bollan.

First team coach Stewart Petrie has been handed the reins for Saturday’s League One clash at Albion Rovers, with the club board planning to start interviewing ‘within the week’.
