Alloa caretaker boss Paddy Connolly admits he is interested in job

Alloa caretaker boss Paddy Connolly admits he is tempted to throw his name into the hat for job after leading the Wasps to a rare victory.

Just four days after presiding over Tuesday’s 5-0 Scottish Cup drubbing to Dumbarton, Connolly watched on loan Rangers midfielder Robbie Crawford score the only goal at Livingston to hand the visitors their first win in 13 matches.

Following a run of eight straight defeats, Alloa are now only three points adrift of the Lions at the Championship basement.

And Connolly, who has a full-time job away from the game working for a roofing company, has refused to rule out putting himself forward for the vacancy.

He said: “After Tuesday night I just wanted to bury my head in the sand but we’ll see, I’ve not spoken to the chairman (Mike Mulraney)

“My gut feeling is that I think it’s a full-time job and I wouldn’t want to give up my own job for that.

“The chairman has not mentioned the job to me, he will probably do the interviews and see what his options are.”

Despite coming away with a crucial win, Alloa had to spent much of the game on the back foot.

There were only five minutes on the clock when Lions striker Liam Buchanan powered a shot over the bar from inside the box.

Livingston striker Jordan White missed a glorious chance when he scooped the ball over the bar from inside the six yard box.

The West Lothian side continued to press after the break but they were dealt a sucker blow when Crawford scored against the run of play.

Former Wasps skipper Ben Gordon slipped as he tried to connect with Jason Marr’s long punt forward and Crawford cooly planted a shot past Marc McCallum after being fed by Michael Duffy.

Lions boss Mark Burchill said: “Again we’ve given an away an unbelievable goal, a mistake that seems to only happen when you really don’t want it.

“I can’t be too harsh on Ben because he’s dug us out a hole loads of times this season and has been fantastic.”
