Neil Lennon admits his job could be in danger as Bolton talks continue

Neil Lennon admits his job is hanging in the balance as takeover talks at Bolton continue.

The Lilywhites have been plagued by financial problems following their relegation from the top-flight in 2012, with debts totalling around £185 million.

However, Bolton owner Eddie Davies has indicated a willingness to write off that sum to accelerate the club’s sale.

Insolvency specialist Trevor Birch, who was part of BDO the team which aided Hearts’ emergence from administration in 2014, has been drafted in to broker a deal and is reportedly in talks with interested parties.

With Bolton currently rooted to the foot of the SkyBet Championship, four points from safety, former Celtic boss Lennon admits any new owner may want a fresh start.

He said: “What might happen is that investors might want to make a change, I have to be realistic about that.

“Results haven’t been good and the buck stops with the manager.

“It needs investment or the club will run out of money, possibly, and you don’t want a situation like that. Trevor [Birch] is in to get investment as quickly as possible.”

On a run which has seen Bolton fail to win in 11 matches, Lennon told the Bolton News: “It has been a trying time but we kept the team up last year and we’re hoping we can do it again. I need players to take their chances and not make silly mistakes at the back.”
