DOG raincoats complete with hoods are the latest creation for pampered US canines coming to Britain.
The Push Pushi raincoat, which comes in camouflage, tartan and even glow-in-the-dark yellow, is already a massive hit in the US and now UK dog lovers have started buying them too.
The small family owned business in Santa Rosa, California, designed the raincoats in a bid to not only protect dogs from harsh weather conditions but to keep them looking stylish while doing so.
The company recently expanded its operation to the UK and reckons the generally harsher and less predictable weather of Great Britain has made them popular with dog lovers.
The coats, which cost between £26 and £38, come in a multitude of colours and are available in a range of sizes to fit most breeds of dogs.
They even have detachable clear hoods to protect pooches from rain and snow getting into their eyes and ears.
The raincoat advertisement reads: “This Push Pushi raincoat is all the rage in the USA, and now you too can dress your four-legged friend just as stylishly.
“Protect their fur from getting wet – and from the risk of catching cold. Shell made of durable, water repellent 420D nylon fabric. Soft, warm lining.
“Wide hook and loop straps around the chest and belly will prevent the coat from slipping and won’t restrict your dog’s movement.
“The coated shell fabric will repel any moisture, ensuring your four-legged friend’s head, neck and back remain dry, even during a heavy downpour.
“The fine fleece lining will keep them warm, without overheating and the foldable hood will not impair vision or hearing.”
Steffan Kuehr, owner of Push Pushi, said: “We have seen a lot of interest from the UK market over the last few months.
“I’m not sure about the exact number of coats sold there over the recent months we have seen a surprising increase in interest, from individuals ordering through the website but also by a few stores who were interested in carrying the products.
“Everybody complained about how their dogs don’t like to go out in the rain and how all the raincoats out the in market with their soft shell hoods obstruct the dog’s ears, slip over their eyes or slip off their head and basically just don’t work.”
