Carlyle teases fans with Trainspotting 2 plot details

ROBERT CARLYLE has revealed that the script for Trainspotting Two is “one of the best” he’s ever read.

The much anticipated sequel to the cult 1996 film is yet to go into production, but Carlyle has said that he has already enjoyed a sneak peek of the script for the movie.

In a cryptic interview, the Glasgow-born star also gave a number of hints about the plot of the new blockbuster to eager fans, who have waited two decades for the follow-up.

Carlyle revealed that fans are in for a treat.

He confirmed that the movie will be set 20 years after the original – and will be about “how the characters’ lives have moved on…or have they?

“Without giving anything away, maybe some of them haven’t really moved on. That’s what the audience is going to have to go through with them.”

Carlyle made the teasing set of revelations in an interview with NME today.

He said: “We’ve already had a read-through of the script, we did that in the springtime.

You’re going to think, ‘Of course he’s going to say this,’ but honestly, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve f***ing read. I mean, ever.

Speaking about the experience of returning to the big screen to play Begbie – the violent mustachioed accomplice to Ewan McGregor’s character, he added: “It’s nerve-wracking to a certain extent, because I’m obviously aware of just how much people loved the original film.

People still quote lines to me on a f***ing daily basis. I get it everywhere; I can’t f***ing escape it!

“But I’m grateful for it too – Begbie has been f***ing terrific for me and my career.”

The original Trainspotting movie – based on Irvine Welsh’s novel – launched Carlyle, as well as Ewan McGregor into the limelight when it hit screens in 1996.

The movie was also the second film by Danny Boyle – who has since gone on to direct Slumdog Millionaire, the new Steve Jobs biopic and the London Olympic opening ceremony.
