Livingston manager Mark Burchill insists Jason Cummings is a Scotland star in the making

Livingston manager Mark Burchill insists Hibs striker Jason Cummings is a Scotland striker in the making.

The Lions will tonight attempt to tame a player that took his scoring tally for the season to 14 last Friday when he netted in the Scotland Under-21s’ 2-2 draw with Ukraine.

The 20-year-old’s exploits in front of goal have attracted attention south of the border, with Brighton said to have joined Bournemouth, Cardiff City, Fulham and Rotherham in keeping tabs on the youngster.

Burchill rates Cummings highly and knows his players will not be able to switch off for a second if they are to keep the marksman at bay in this evening’s rearranged Championship clash at Easter Road.

Former Celtic and Scotland forward Burchill said: “Jason is a good player and has all qualities you need to be a great striker.

“He has two great feet, he’s good in the air and he moves off the ball well too.

“I think he is a Scotland striker in the making. He is obviously doing well for the 21s at the minute but I’m in no doubt that he’ll make the jump into the full Scotland squad at some point.

“He’s good enough to play down south or at the very least the Premiership in Scotland, whether that be at Hibs or another team.

“But we seem to limit the chances that the big teams create against us and we pride ourselves on that.

“Defensively it’s about keeping your concentration levels high for the 90 minutes because players like that can punish you. James Keatings is very similar in a way.”

Livingston will attempt to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Morton on their last outing.

Burchill added: “We have actually been playing well. Morton had five attempts on goal and had one on target, which was the penalty.

“We had 14 attempts, five on target and had 55 per cent possession. If we keep doing the same thing we’ll win more games than we lose.”
