Bobby Williamson’s Kenya are in a commanding position to progress in the African World Cup qualifiers after beating Cape Verde Island’s 1-0 yesterday.
The Harambee Stars overcame a team ranked 62 places above them in Nairobi courtesy of Michael Olunga’s ninth minute strike.
Kenya, who are captained by former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, will now look to seal their place in the qualifying group stage for Russia 2018 when they travel to Praia for Tuesday’s second leg.
Former Hibs and Kilmarnock manager Williamson said: “The fans came out in large numbers and the players were determined to give them something to celebrate.
“They played with a lot of passionate and deserved to win this one.”
