Peter Houston insists he will not look seriously at the Championship table until the New Year – but admits Falkirk are ‘on course’ to clinch a promotion play-off place this season.
The Bairns boss has set his players a target of 15 points per quarter in their bid to land the top-four spot that eluded them last term.
And, following Saturday’s 2-1 victory away to Raith Rovers they already have 12 out of a maximum of 12 available for their current round of fixtures.
Combined with the 15 they secured from the first quarter, the Westfield outfit are well on their way to giving themselves a shot at promotion next May.
However, Houston, who side are just four points behind second-top Hibs and nine behind near-perfect leaders Rangers, is not about to get too excited just yet.
He said: “I said last year when we had a poor start that I don’t really look at the tables, to see where we are, until January.
“It would be wrong of me to go back on my word just because we’ve had a good start.
“I’ve targeted the players 60 points because I look at the play-off situations over the years, not just last season, and that should get you a play-off position.
“A club of our standing, with Rangers and Hibs in the division, should be in the play-offs, and we’re on course.”
