Grant Anderson admits he is feeling good about his selfie after recognition from the great Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Raith winger was back at his old boys’ club, Harmony Row, recently for a centenary bash thrown by the Glasgow side.
Ferguson is patron of the club, where he began his incredible football career, and also has their Braehead pitch named in his honour.
Anderson is also a former Harmony Row player and rubbed shoulders with the Manchester United and Aberdeen legend at the civic reception for the club 10 days ago.
And the 29-year-old was bowled over when Fergie recognised him from a previous meeting at the youth club back in 2008.
Anderson explained: “Sir Alex Ferguson? My mate! I got a selfie with him, but I had to steal it a wee bit because he had been round about 300 folk before he got to me, and I think he was scunnered by that time!
“There had been a group photo before that as well and he remembered me from the last time I met him, which was about seven or eight years ago.
“He didn’t know I played for Raith because the first time I met him I had just finished playing for my boys’ club and I had signed for the Juniors.
“He was asking what I was doing now and when I told him I played full-time for Raith he said ‘brilliant’. It was really nice that he recognised me but I didn’t expect it at all.
“I snuck in at the back of the photo and he ended up coming in the back as well. He was standing beside me and said: ‘All right, big man, how you doing? How’s the football going?
“I lot of people say Sir Alex is very good at remembering faces but it was great that he recognised me from the last time.
“Sir Alex played for the club and then obviously went on to other things! And he has backed them for a lot of years.
“I was just delighted to get my photo taken again with him and I put it on Instagram so everybody can see it!”
Bad day
Raith will need more than Anderson to turn in an inspired performance today when they host a Falkirk side who are three points ahead in second place in the Championship.
After five consecutive league victories, Rovers have now lost their last two matches – against Hibernian and Livingston – and allowed Falkirk to overtake them and make this afternoon’s encounter a crucial one.
Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat away to Livingston featured a flat display from Ray McKinnon’s outfit and Anderson is aware they must be better against the Bairns.
He added: “We are looking to bounce back on Saturday.
“We put in a good performance against Hibs but Livingston wasn’t good enough. I don’t know the reasons, it was just a bad day.
“We had chances and it could have been a different game if any one of them had gone in.
“But, overall, by our standard this season, it wasn’t good enough so we want to rectify that this weekend.
“It should be a good occasion. Obviously there have been more and more fans turning up at Stark’s Park recently so hopefully that will continue.
“We want to turn them over on our home patch.
“There is a three-point gap but we are within touching distance.”
