Scotland slip further down world rankings

BY DARREN JOHNSTONE @CCP_Sport

Scotland have slipped to their lowest ranking this year after being listed as the 44th best football country in the current FIFA table.

Gordon Strachan’s side have fallen four places after drawing with Poland and thrashing Gibraltar during October in their final Group D Euro 2016 qualifying matches.

But as Gibraltar are not recognised as a full FIFA member, ranking points from that match are not included.

Belgium have overtaken Argentina and Germany to take the top spot, while Scotland are behind fellow home nation countries, England (9th), Wales (15th) and Northern Ireland (29th).

The Republic of Ireland, who secured a play-off place in Group D, have also leap-frogged Scotland into 42nd place after climbing 12 places.
