Former Scotland and Hibs star Garry O’Connor has been named permanent manager of Lowland League outfit Selkirk – despite suffering a 5-1 defeat in his first match in charge.
The 32-year-old was handed the reins on a temporary basis following the departure of Steve Forrest last Wednesday, overseeing his first training session on Thursday evening.
Selkirk were on the end of a bruising defeat against Gretna 2008 yesterday, but the club’s hierarchy have decided O’Connor is the right man to take the club forward.
O’Connor will retain his playing commitments, while his first match as permanent boss will come against Stirling University next weekend.
He boasts a wealth of experience with Hibernian, Lokomotiv Moscow, Birmingham City, Barnsley and Tom Tomsk, but has also courted controversy during a chequered career.
