Morton winger Bobby Barr admits he is hoping that Ton have already gone through their sticky patch.

And despite being knocked out of the League Cup by St Johnstone on Tuesday, former Livingston playmaker Barr reckons they only way is up for the sixth placed side.

Speaking ahead of today’s trip to Dumbarton, Barr said: “It was an important win against Alloa as we had not been playing as well as we had.

“Tuesday’s League Cup defeat to St Johnstone was disappointing but we won’t get too down about it because they’re a good team. We competed well but hopefully we can build on our league win when we play Dumbarton.

“Hopefully that’s our bad spell behind us and we can move on. We knew it was going to be a difficult run but it was small margins in games as I actually thought we played quite well in some of them.

“We’ve got teams coming up that are around us in the league in Livingston, Queen of the South and St Mirren, so it’s a chance for ourselves to build a wee gap there.

“We’re only a point behind Queen of the South but we also know that if Dumbarton beat us on Saturday then they’re level on points.”

Sons midfielder Grant Gallagher, meanwhile, insists Stevie Aitken’s side must make the most of home advantage.

He said: “It is definitely important for us to get a run going at home. When teams come to Dumbarton we have got to make it hard for them, so it becomes a place where we are going to take points and get us up the table.

“We need to make it a place where teams don’t want to come. If we are doing well at home it will be spoken about and put a wee doubt in the mind of teams coming here.”
