Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon hit with English FA fine

Neil Lennon has been fined £3,500 and warned about his future conduct by the English FA after criticising the referee in the wake of Bolton’s defeat to Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.

The Lilywhites manager was furious with the performance of official Darren Drysdale following the 4-3 loss at Loftus Road, saying: “I have not seen a more biased performance from a referee in a long, long time. He gave QPR everything he possibly could.”

Lennon, who had a series of run-ins with the Scottish FA during his time as Celtic boss, accepted that he had breached FA rule E3 in that his remarks ‘alleged and/or implied bias on the part of the match official, and/or brought the game into disrepute’.

A FA statement read: “Neil Lennon has been fined £3,500 and warned as to his future conduct after he admitted a charge of misconduct in relation to media comments.”
