Former Rangers starlet Lewis MacLeod has hailed the support of his friends and family after taking a step closer to his Brentford debut following 10 months on the sideline.
The 21-year-old played 60 minutes for the Bees’ under-21 side on Tuesday evening and capped a heartening display on his comeback with a goal against QPR.
MacLeod is yet to play a first-team game for Brentford since his £850,000 switch from Ibrox in January, with has last senior appearance coming for the Gers in a 3-2 win against Arbroath on January 25.
He was plagued by a hamstring complaint during the final weeks of his Rangers career and suffered a set-back when – as then Brentford boss Mark Warburton revealed – he “tripped over a twig” at training.
The Scotland under-21 internationalist told Brentfordfc.co.uk: “I can’t even begin to describe the last ten months. My family and the people around me have been so important.
“It has been so unlucky the way that everything came about but now I just want to put that behind me and get back on the pitch. Hopefully that was a good start on Tuesday.”
