Poland have been handed a major injury boost ahead of next Thursday’s crunch Euro 2016 clash against Scotland after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny recovered from a hand injury.

Szczesny was forced off after 50 minutes in Roma’s opening Champions League group match at home to Barcelona on September 16 following a collision with Luis Suarez.

But after initial fears that the on loan Arsenal shot-stopper had broken his left-hand were not realised, the 25-year-old has now returned to training and has been named in Roma’s squad for tonight’s Champions League clash at Belarussian side BATE.

News of Szczesny’s recovery will come as a huge boost to Poland manager Adam Nawalka ahead of the October 8 Hampden showdown in the penultimate match of the Group D campaign.

The Poles are in the driving seat to collect the second automatic qualifying place for the finals in France with a two point lead over third place Ireland.

Victory over Gordon Strachan’s side would dash Scotland’s hopes of claiming a play-off place.
