“I wasn’t the most sensible of laddies’ – Jordyn Sheerin vows to grab “second chance” at Livingston

Livingston striker Jordyn Sheerin intends to make up for lost time after admitting he squandered his first crack at senior football thanks to the impetuousness of youth.

The 26-year-old made his first league start for the Almondvale outfit on Saturday and scored his second goal for the club, meeting a super Ross Millen cross to volley past David Crawford.

That fine finish was sandwiched between two clinical finishes by former Wasps front-man Liam Buchanan as Livi climbed from the foot of the Championship with a handsome 3-0 win in Clackmannanshire.

Sheerin has handled the step up to senior football with aplomb

Sheerin, a constant thorn in the Alloa side with his movement and work rate, is visibly thriving upon his return to the senior game following a prolific season at Musselburgh Athletic which saw him plunder 42 goals and reach the Junior Cup Final.

It is a far cry from the wayward youngster who emerged through the ranks at East Fife, only to initially fritter away his talents and end up quitting the game for six months.

“I wasn’t the most sensible of laddies. It’s taken me longer than most to grow up and realise what I wanted to do,” said a candid Sheerin.

“It was totally my own fault. I was told by several coaches when I was younger that, if I worked hard, I could do something in the game. I didn’t listen to them, but I’m listening now.

“I went amateur for a while then just stopped playing for about six months – just worked with my old man as a joiner.

“I got my head together and decided to make the most of things. I didn’t want to be that 40-year-old in the pub saying: ‘I could’ve been a player.’

“Some people don’t get a second chance, so I’m going to take mine.”
