Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs weighs up move for Jamaican striker Theo Robinson

Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs is weighing up a move for Jamaica international striker Theo Robinson as he bids to add attacking reinforcements to his squad.

Stubbs was left frustrated by his team’s inability to turn a handful of chances into goals in Sunday’s bitterly disappointing 1-0 loss at Championship leaders Rangers.

And with Jason Cummings and Dominique Malonga as his only recognised out-and-out strikers as James Keatings recovers from a hamstring injury, the former Celtic defender is keen to bolster his options up front.

Robinson, who was released by Paul Dickov at English League One outfit Doncaster earlier this summer, is currently training with the Easter Road side at their East Mains base.

The 26-year-old was a graduate of Watford’s youth set-up and, amid a series of loan spells, has also played for Millwall and Derby County.

Robinson scored three goals in eight appearances on loan at Scunthorpe at the end of last season.

Stubbs, whose side host Stranraer in the second round of the League Cup tomorrow, admits he could welcome new signings in the coming days.

Stubbs, who lost out on former Rangers striker Jon Daly to Raith but has also been linked with defender Darren McGregor, said: “Hopefully in the next week, or whenever the window closes we may see another couple of additions to the group – which will make us stronger.”

Despite the weekend’s loss, their second in the league, Stubbs is convinced that his side can challenge Rangers for the title this season. The defeat already leaves Hibs six points adrift of the summit after three games.

Speaking to Hibs TV, Stubbs added: “We know Rangers have got a good group of players but I didn’t go away from there thinking we had been turned over. I went away with even more confidence.

“I thought we were in the game for huge parts and created some really good opportunities.

“I think the most important thing is that there were lots of positives with our performance; to go to Ibrox in front of a full house but haven’t been intimidated whatsoever.

“We’ve still got one or two to come back which will make us stronger.”
