Berwick Rangers manager Colin Cameron will aim to compound Gary Locke’s woes tonight – but insists his Kilmarnock counterpart deserves the chance to show what he can do in the dugout.
Cameron played alongside Locke at Hearts and felt for his former team-mate after the Rugby Park side were thrashed 4-0 at home for the second time this season in a heavy loss to Ross County on Saturday.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes went as far as suspending betting on Locke being the first Premiership manager to be sacked this term.
And even though Cameron is desperate to cause a huge upset, the one-time Scotland midfielder hopes Locke keeps his position for the foreseeable future.
Cameron said: “I hope he gets a chance to show what he can do.
“He served his time at Hearts and got them through a very difficult period.
“I know how he feels with how things are going at the moment, it’s not a nice feeling.
“He will be determined to put things right there, I think he needs to be given that time because he’s brought a few players in and it’s very early in the season.
“You just hope that people behind the scenes don’t panic and they give him the opportunity to get them back on track.”
Speaking ahead of the second round tie, Cameron added: “It’s a chance for the Berwick players to make a name for themselves.
“It would be a big upset, even though they’re struggling they’re still a Premiership club.”
