El Bakhtaoui ‘on fire’ but Dunfermline success down to hard-working squad says Allan Johnston

BY IAIN COLLIN – Capital City Press

Allan Johnston has hailed on ‘on-fire’ striker Faissal El Bakhtaoui – but insists Dunfermline’s early-season form is down to the strength of their squad.

The Pars began their League One campaign with a 6-1 thrashing of Brechin City at the weekend, taking their goals tally to an incredible 15 in just three matches following cup wins over Arbroath and Cowdenbeath.

El Bakhtaoui has spearheaded the goals rush, with a brace in each game to quickly rack up six and put himself within touching distance of the nine he netted last term.

However, Johnston is eager not to single out anyone after watching another five players get on the score-sheet in a hat-trick of excellent team performances.

He said: “Faiss is on fire, isn’t he? I didn’t know much about him before I came to the club but he’s really impressed me since I came in.

“But, to be fair, all the boys have impressed me since I came in. Their attitude has been brilliant, you can see they’re all desperate to do well.

“There’s competition for places and everybody’s got a chance of playing, so you know to keep your place in the team you’ve got to play well.”
