New dad Lewis Coult sees dream week capped by outing against Hearts

Emotional Arbroath striker Lewis Coult admits the last few days have been a “blur” after he welcomed his first child into the world and got the opportunity to play at the home of his boyhood heroes.

Coult’s girlfriend, Regan, gave birth to baby Mila on Wednesday morning – rendering the lanky striker unusually speechless.

And, with just three hours of sleep in the bag, the Red Lichties front-man made the dash to Tynecastle to lead the line against his beloved Hearts in the League Cup on Thursday evening.

A dream week looked like it may get even better when the visitors claimed a first-half lead, but the Jambos ultimately ran out 4-2 winners.

Nevertheless, the smile on Coult’s face was immovable.

He said: “Wednesday, at 10am on the dot, my girlfriend gave birth to a beautiful wee girl, Mila.

“Everyone knows I’m a big joker in the changing room and I’m light-hearted, but when I saw Mila I was gobsmacked. It’s a feeling I can’t really describe. From there, everything else has been a blur.

“I got three hours of sleep. A quick nap and I’m bright as a button again. Getting Mila home this weekend has been the best feeling and I’m still in dreamland.

“And there’s nothing better than coming to play at Tynecastle, home of my favourite club, in my home city. That’s not sunk in yet. It’s been a busy week but it’s been worth it.

“If I was to give up tomorrow and never kick another ball, I’d have fantastic memories – and playing at Tynecastle would be the best one.

“I’ve won leagues with Cowdenbeath, I’ve scored in big games but to finally step on the park at Tynecastle means the world to me. I even got a clap from the Hearts fans. I was a bit emotional and that takes a lot because I laugh my way through life. I’ll take it to the grave with me.”
