The hour long ride from Coats Memorial Church in Paisley to the Lochside House Hotel in New Cumnock proved too much for the vintage car.

Stranded at the side of the road, and even overtaken by the bus carrying their guests to the party, if fell to PC Lynsey Arthur to save the day.

Bemused guests couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the happy couple drive into the venue in the marked police car – with the lights flashing.

Wedding photographer Tracy McQuillan, who was in the car just ahead of the couple, said: “We sped ahead and stopped at a temporary set of traffic lights.

“There was no sign of the bride.”

“The guest bus arrived. It had passed the bride pulled over at the side with a police car behind it,” she said.

“We still have no idea what happened to the guy and his car. I’ve no idea if he is still there.”

She continued: “For the rest of the day people couldn’t stop talking about it.

“The police officer was amazing – she delivered the couple safely to the wedding, posed for a quick photo and then got back in her car and went back to work.”

Tracy added: “She was still on duty. She had the lights on but no siren.”

PC Arthur from Cumnock police office said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be of assistance to such a lovely couple on the most important day of their lives.

“They were so thankful I stopped and offered to transport them to the hotel. It wasn’t quite the transport they had hoped to arrive in but I managed to keep their spirits high and keep them happy and smiling all the way to their venue.

“It was a truly magical moment for me as a police officer to be able to assist at such a critical moment on their wedding day. It certainly had me smiling the entire day and I wish them all the best.”
