The SFA have confirmed that new signing Jason Talbot will miss Dunfermline’s first two competitive matches of the season following his red card in Saturday’s friendly against Hibernian.

The full-back was sent-off after just 17 minutes of the 2-1 defeat following an ugly challenge on Hibs striker Dominique Malonga.

The 29-year-old, recruited from Livingston during the close-season, lunged in two-footed with both legs off the ground and was instantly dismissed by referee Nick Walsh.

The whistler’s official report has included the sending off and, as it was for the offence of ‘serious foul play’, Talbot has earned a two-game ban before the new season has even kicked off.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Port Vale defender had previously been red-carded five times in his last five seasons in Scottish football and was given a further two-match suspension for a horrible head-high challenge on Hearts winger Sam Nicholson back in February.

Talbot will now miss Saturday’s trip to face Arbroath in the Petrofac Training Cup and the following weekend’s home clash with local rivals Cowdenbeath in the League Cup before being eligible again for the league kick-off against Brechin City on August 8.
