Mankini man performs cheerleading routine to win dream wedding

A MANKINI-wearing Scot has taken his efforts to win a dream wedding to the next level – by performing a half-naked cheerleading routine.

Martin McKenna caused a fuss when he donned a green thong in a desperate bid to win a £25,000 wedding in St Andrews.

His stunt paid off – with everyone from oil rig workers in Angola, to coppers in New York, to offshore men in Indonesia tweeting messages of support for him and fiancee Tina.

And now the 35-year-old has taken the #ochwedding competition a step further by performing a cheerleading routine at a football match – wearing just a short skirt and a crop top held in place by tit tape.

His act, which includes cartwheels, forward-rolls and hair flicks, took place at halftime during Saturday’s match between St Anthony’s and Cumnock in Glasgow.

A video taken at the game shows Martin, from Easterhouse in Glasgow, walking onto the pitch holding two blue pom poms and wearing a wig.

He performed a backwards roll as part of his routine

He begins the dance by waving his arms in the air, before attempting a backwards-roll and spelling out Tina’s name.

He then kicks his legs and claps his pom poms under his thighs, and ends the routine by hitching his skirt up and doing a cartwheel.

Delighted fans can be heard shouting “sexy” and “go on yerself Martin” from the sidelines.

Martin, who works as a web designer, said he felt “petrified” as he walked onto the pitch.

“This was a big step up from the mankini because I was performing in front of a crowd,” he said.

“I had to walk past 22 footballers as they came off for half time, and made my routine up on the spot.

Martin even attempted a cartwheel

“I had looked at some cheerleading dances online but they were a bit too athletic for me.

“Tina loved the routine and is getting used to me doing crazy stunts now. It proves I’ll do anything to win her this wedding.”

He kickstarted his wedding campaign earlier this month by donning a mankini and posting pictures of himself holding up a sign and recreating his proposal.

His mankini picture went viral and was retweeted around the world

His pictures have gone viral, with American Professional Wrestler Hulk Hogan, I’m a Celeb Star and former footballer Jimmy Bullard, and Scots actor Greg Hemphill noticing his efforts.

The competition, run by the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews and the Scottish Wedding Directory Magazine, challenges couples to get themselves noticed on social media.

The winning pair will be married on 29 April – William and Kate’s fifth wedding anniversary – and the package includes a designer wedding dress, a photographer and a wedding breakfast based on the royal couple’s wedding menu.

Other entrants have uploaded cute songs, romantic photographs and even home-made board games in a bid to win.

A trio of daring bridesmaids also posed naked on the Forth Road Bridge in a bid to help their best friend come in first place.

The winners will be announced on August 25.
