Queen of the South manager James Fowler admits he is closing in on the signing of experienced defender Kyle Jacobs.
Jacobs, who can also play in midfield, has joined the Doonhamers for pre-season training after his contract at the troubled Lions expired at the end of last season.
And Fowler is hopeful of completing a deal for his former Kilmarnock team-mate as he sets about trying to assemble a squad that can challenge for the Championship play-offs.
Fowler, who has lost Gavin Reilly, Danny Carmichael, Mark Durnan, Ian McShane and Kevin Holt since May, said: “Kyle has been in training with us and he is one we’ll try to bring in.
“I know Kyle from my time at Kilmarnock, he is a good team player and can play in a number of positions, and he is a good type.
“I think he is keen to come here too and is looking for a fresh challenge after what was going on at Livingston off the field last season.
“He also knows Iain Russell from playing alongside him at Livingston so hopefully he can fit in.”
