Raith Rovers manager Ray McKinnon insists he has recruited ‘one of the hottest young prospects’ in Scotland after winning the race to land Dundee youngster Craig Wighton on loan.
The 17-year-old, who has previously been linked with interest from Sunderland, Southampton and Swansea City, has been farmed out to the Kirkcaldy outfit for an initial six months.
With a number of Raith’s Championship rivals also seeking to sign the highly-rated Wighton, McKinnon – who worked with the teenager for a month at previous club Brechin City last season – believes the Stark’s Park side have pulled off a real coup.
He said: “Obviously we are delighted to have brought Craig on board for the next six months. He’s a super young talent, probably one of the hottest young prospects in Scotland, but he’s only a young kid and he needs to come out and get some game time.
“I think it’s a great move for him and great for us. There were a lot of teams trying to get him and we are very thankful to Paul Hartley and Dundee for letting him come to us.
“He fits in with the ethos we are trying to build at the club, of good, young, hungry players, and I think it helped us that I had worked with him last season as well.”
