Naughty postie filmed using mobile phone behind the wheel

THE ROYAL Mail are investigating a video which appears to show a postie on his mobile phone whilst driving.

The postman, caught on camera by cyclist David Brennan, can be seen with his hand up to his ear as he drives a company vehicle through Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire.

The footage was recorded at around 6pm on Monday, as the driver turned off Auchenhowie Road onto a busy urban road.

The driver does not appear to realise he is being filmed, and continues to drive past as cars queue up on the other side of the road.

The clip was shared on Scotland’s Worst Drivers website, which shames drivers north of the Border.

Mr Brennan, who regularly uploads video clips of drivers behaving badly, said: “The road this driver has come from is a fast rural ‘A’ road, and the road he is driving onto is a busy urban road.

“He is not concentrating anywhere near enough on either if he is on his phone.”

The Royal Mail have confirmed they are investigating

Those who viewed the clip have slammed the driver’s apparent behaviour.

Inge Posch wrote: “Disgusting and dangerous…definitely a p*** poor professional.”

‘Chris’ added: “I would say report it. Not on.”

Drivers caught using a hand-held phone whilst driving will usually receive 3 penalty points and a fine of £100.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Using a mobile phone whilst driving is a criminal offence so we take such matters extremely seriously.

“Royal Mail is investigating this incident fully and is reminding all our people of how to drive legally and safely.

“Our hardworking postmen and women play an important role in their local communities, working hard to deliver a good service to our customers so cases like this are exceptionally rare.”
