Charity duo to take on 100-hole golf challenge

Two golf fanatics are set to take on a particularly rough challenge in the name of charity – playing 100 holes in just one day.

Tom Lovering and Michael McEwan will step up to the first tee at Kingsbarns Golf Links in Fife at the eye-watering time of 4am in an attempt to raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

The pair, part of the team at bunkered – Scotland’s only golf magazine – will complete the course around five-and-a-half times, covering 23 miles on foot in the process.

Kirsten Sinclair, head of fundraising, Yorkhill Children’s Charity, said: “We are delighted that Tom and Michael are taking on this challenge to raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

“Their effort comes just after our big move to the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where we have already funded more than £5m in equipment and service delivery.”

The duo – who expect to be on the course for 18 hours – will be joined by two different guests for each of their five full rounds as they attempt to raise thousands of pounds.

Donations of £10 or more will be entered into a competition where entrants can guess how many shots in total it will take the pair to complete the 100 holes.

Only seven miles from St Andrews, the ‘home of golf’, Kingsbarns is a par-72 course. That equates to a total combined par over the five-and-a-half rounds of 792. Michael plays off 15 while Tom plays off 8.

The person with the closest guess will win a fourball at Kingsbarns Golf Links* – simply leave your guess in the ‘Message’ section when making your donation – and thanks for chipping in!
