MICHELLE Mone bought her new multi-million pound penthouse apartment in London – because it overlooks a warship.
The underwear tycoon said she splashed out on the stunning property overlooking the Thames because her grandfather served on HMS Belfast “for years”.
Now a museum ship permanently moored on the river, the vessel fired thousands of shells in support of the invasion of Normandy and escorted Arctic convoys. She later saw action in the Korean War.
Mone, estimated to be worth £20m, recently relocated from her Mayfair pad to closer to her 18-year-old son’s office.
Now the 43-year-old has revealed on Twitter that the decision to buy the apartment with views out to the Royal Navy light cruiser was a very personal one.
“My Grandad was on this ship for years #HMSBelfast now he’s keeping me safe.Incredible what they all did for us #dday,” she tweeted.
Andy T asked: “Is that one of the reasons you got that pad Michelle, because that ship means something to you? If so that is incredibly sweet.”
To which the multi-millionairess from the east end of Glasgow replied: “The main reason.”
Mone bought her Mayfair dwelling because she had always dreamed of living on the street made famous by the game Monopoly.
But she appears to be even more smitten with her new London base.
In a recent interview from her apartment she said; “’There’s HMS Belfast, over there is the Shard, there’s the London Eye and that’s Boris Johnson’s office. I absolutely love it here.”
She continued: “I always wanted to wake up beside the water,’ she said. “I know it’s horrible, dirt brown water, but it’s so therapeutic, it’s lovely.”
The apartment balcony has been a favourite spot for photo shoots as Mone promotes her biography and fake tan brand.
As well as having HMS Belfast on her doorstep entrepreneur also has stunning views of Tower Bridge, a far cry from the tenement flat she grew up in which had no bathroom.
