Roman exhibition at The McManus hoping to hit 50,000 visitors

Organisers of ‘The Roman Empire: Power and People’ exhibition at Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum are hoping to hit 50,000 visitors this weekend.

Already 47,881 visitors have been through the doors of The McManus since the show launched in January.

The exhibition explores the wealth, power and organisation of the Roman Empire.

Religious, military and personal objects give an insight into the lives of people across the Empire, from northern Britain to Egypt and the Middle East.

Christina Donald, curator in early history at Leisure & Culture Dundee, said: “It would be lovely to hit 50,000 visitors by Sunday evening and round off an exhibition that we have enjoyed hosting so much.

“The exhibition has highlighted that objects from our own collections can comfortably stand side by side with objects of international importance and it seems to have really struck a chord with visitors both locally and further afield.”

The exhibition will move on to the Segedunum Roman Fort in Tyne and Wear where it opens at the end of the month.
