JK Rowling says her “heart is in Nepal” after the worst earthquake in more than 80 years hit the country.
The Scottish author was in the capital Kathmandu – where the tremor centred – just four weeks ago with her family.
The Harry Potter creator visited a school in the city and read excerpts from her books to students.
Yesterday [Sunday] the 49-year-old posted a picture of her trip on twitter along side what appeared to be two of the pupils she met.
She wrote: “Heart in #Nepal Today. Met wonderful people there four weeks ago. I’m giving to Oxfam, please join me.”
Nearly 2,000 people were killed when the earthquake hit on Saturday.
Rescue missions and aid material have started arriving in affected areas.
On Oxfam’s donation page it states: “A powerful earthquake has rocked Nepal. Oxfam is there.
“We urgently need your help to provide clean water, sanitation and emergency food. Please give what you can today.”
