Kapranos backs T in the Park move – just don’t ask him about the ospreys

ALEX Kapranos backed T in the Park’s move to a new site – but then admitted he knew nothing about the row over nesting ospreys.

The Franz Ferdinand frontman came under fire after he tweeted a link to a petition urging councillors to approve the move to Strathallan.

The new location is controversial because ospreys, a protected species, have returned to their nest on the site.

Kapranos, apparently unaware of the storm, tweeted: “Here’s a petition supporting the T in the Park move to Strathallan.”

The Tennent’s Lager official twitter account were delighted, replying: “Ta for sharing, Alex. Franz Ferdinand in 2009 and 2014 were both off the scale. Cheers from us and the T in the Park teams.”

But Jane Richards responded: “If given an opportunity to see nesting ospreys or Kasabian I know what I prefer.

“Hope organisers hold the event elsewhere.”

Kapranos was forced to admit: “I didn’t know about the ospreys. What’s the situation?”

He then reignited the long-running feud with Kasabian by tweeting: “Personally I’d rather watch nesting rats in an open sewer than that band.”

Jane explained: “They have an established nest site there and have returned. Quite a campaign about it locally.”

Another Twitter user, Vinyl Victim, took Kapranos to task for backing the move.

He said: “Surely it’s a decision for the local people based on likely impact to them, the local wildlife and any benefits from the event?”

The petition on change.org is in support of T in the Park being granted planning for the Strathallan site.

Addressed to Perth and Kinross Council it has reached more than 700 signatures since it was set up on Tuesday.

Connor Ovenstone in Perth commented: “Save Scotland’s only amazing music festival.”

Janetta Hope from Alness wrote: “It’s truly great for Scotland young people and helps the economy.”

While Jodi Christie for Anderdeen added: “I spent a lot of years going to T in the Park – six years in a row. This year my oldest son turned 16 and asked for a ticket for his birthday. Of course I got him it. I want him and his mate’s to Enjoy a lot of year of going like I did.”

T in the Park is currently pitted against bird charities and many local residents who say the festival can’t be held at Strathallan because it’s a nesting ground for the protected species of raptor.

This week it was claimed a second osprey nest has been found at the planned site.
