A CLINICAL company is calling for diabetes-sufferers in Glasgow to sign up to a range of studies.
Synexus, the world’s largest multinational company dedicated to the recruitment and running of clinical studies, wants people specifically with Type 2 diabetes to sign up.
Their studies investigate the balance between diabetes and cardiac risk medication.
They are particularly looking for patients with Type 2 diabetes who have experienced one or more of the following:
- Heart attack or stroke
- A diagnosis of angina
- Narrowing or blockage of your coronary arteries (e.g. had coronary artery bypass, angiogram or had a cardiac stent fitted)
- A diagnosis of poor circulation to your legs (e.g. have Peripheral Vascular Disease, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Claudication or other circulatory problems)
Or:
- Are over 55 and male, or over 65 and female and taking / have taken statins for cholesterol management
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. Type 2 diabetes develops when your body can’t produce enough insulin, or when the insulin that is produced doesn’t work properly.
If untreated, it can cause very serious health problems – if you have diabetes, you’re up to five times more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke.
