Their studies investigate the balance between diabetes and cardiac risk medication.

They are particularly looking for patients with Type 2 diabetes who have experienced one or more of the following:

  • Heart attack or stroke
  • A diagnosis of angina
  • Narrowing or blockage of your coronary arteries (e.g. had coronary artery bypass, angiogram or had a cardiac stent fitted)
  • A diagnosis of poor circulation to your legs (e.g. have Peripheral Vascular Disease, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Claudication or other circulatory problems)

Or:

  • Are over 55 and male, or over 65 and female and taking / have taken statins for cholesterol management

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. Type 2 diabetes develops when your body can’t produce enough insulin, or when the insulin that is produced doesn’t work properly.

If untreated, it can cause very serious health problems – if you have diabetes, you’re up to five times more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke.
