Man with learning difficulties was “battered to death”

A MAN with learning difficulties is believed to have been “battered to death” at a house in West Lothian yesterday morning.

Police are investigating after the body of Lloyd Williams was found at a house on Main Street, Fauldhouse at about 3:40am on Monday.

Mr Williams, 47, is thought to have been born with brain damage and had a speech impairment.

Locals have confirmed he had been on a night out before the incident occurred. One woman, who does not wish to be named, said he had heard he was then “battered to death” when he got home.

Amanda Bryce, 33, who runs a corner shop and takeaway near to where Mr William’s mother Joan lives, said: “He wouldn’t hurt a fly. He used to come in and say ” Give us a pie and I’ll eat it at my mum’s”.

“He would speak to anybody. He always used to dance in the Welfare club and he used to ask everyone to dance. He was a gentle giant. I’m shocked. ”

Lynn McCord, 46, said Mr Williams was well known locally. She said: “He was just a pleasant guy. He was found in the stairwell, my friend is his neighbour in the flat below and he couldn’t leave the house this morning because of the police.

Lovely guy

“Lloyd was at the Masonic Club last night. We were all worried – who could hurt Lloyd? I’ll miss him. I liked to see him.”

Audrey Conner, 49,manager of the Masonic Club, said: “He was just a lovely, lovely guy. He came in here and the people here were his friends. All the girls here knew him.

“He loved dancing. He loved karaoke and Duran Duran. It was just him and his mum. He worshipped the ground his mum walked on. He used to be up at the shop every day doing her messages. I’m really, really sad.”

The road was closed for a time to allow police to carry out their investigations.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in West Lothian are in attendance at an address in Main Street, Fauldhouse, following the death of a man.

Unexplained

“The incident was reported to police today at around 3.40am. A police cordon is still in place around the address, however the road has now reopened.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing at this time.”
