THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a severely underweight dog was found straying in Glasgow.
The SSPCA were alerted of the dog’s plight on Monday, March 2, when a member of the public spotted the canine in poor condition wandering in Glasgow city centre.
The male and tan crossbreed, estimated to be around a year old, is now in the Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald, where staff have named him Archie.
Senior Inspector Billy Linton said: “Archie is a very friendly dog and unfortunately he isn’t microchipped which makes it difficult for us to find out where he came from.
“At the moment our enquires have not led us to identifying his owner so we are appealing to anyone who may recognise Archie to get in touch with us.
“It’s worrying how underweight Archie is at only 10kgs. It seems he hasn’t been receiving the proper care he needs and it’s possible he may have been straying for a while.
“Archie is now receiving the care he needs and we’ll find him a loving new home once he had recovered.”

The SSPCA added that causing unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
